Dr. Alexandra Asrow, MD FACEP
Dr. Asrow is a board certified Emergency Physician, and Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians from Chicago, IL. She currently works as an Emergency Physician at multiple hospitals in the Chicagoland area. She received her ScB Degree with honors from Brown University. She studied at the University of Bologna as an Erasmus student, and received a Fulbright Scholarship to Italy which she conducted at the University of Torino. She attended the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine for her MD, during which time she also arranged an international elective rotation at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem. She completed her residency training in Emergency Medicine at Amita Health Resurrection in Chicago, IL. During this time she completed her residency elective rotation at Umberto Primo Hospital in Rome, Italy where the idea for EMGLEX was inspired.
Dr. Asrow is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. She is the American College of Emergency Physicians Lead Ambassador to Italy and Finland, as well as the Chair of the International Ambassador Program. She is also involved with EUSEM, IFEM, and Fulbright. Her own personal experiences with international exchanges inspired her to create the EMGLEX Flagship Exchange Program. She believes that the best way to learn something is to experience it for oneself. In her free time, Dr. Asrow enjoys playing music, drawing, travel, learning languages, trying new foods, and spending time with her adopted cats.
Dr. William Weber, MD MPH - Advisory Board Member
Dr. Weber is an Emergency Physician at Rush University Chicago focusing on Global Emergency Medicine Education. He has completed a fellowship in International Emergency Medicine at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He serves on the executive committee for the Global Emergency Medicine Academy (GEMA) of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, serves on the Public Health and Injury Prevention Committee of the American College of Emergency Physicians, and has worked as a consultant for the World Health Organization. Dr. Weber has been involved in organizing and running our Flagship Exchange Program since his days as a resident, and has been instrumental in its success. We are thrilled to have him continue to be a part of our team!
Dr. Stefano Gabriele, MD - Advisory Board Member
Dr. Gabriele is an Emergency Medicine resident currently completing his second residency in Emergency Medicine in Warwick, Rhode Island. Dr. Gabriele was born in Pescara, Italy, completed high school in the US, and received his degree in Medicine from the “University G. D’Annunzio” School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Pescara, Italy. He has completed rotations in Emergency Medicine in multiple cities in Italy, the US, and Ireland as part of his first residency in Emergency Medicine Sassari, Sardinia, Italy. After participating in the EMGLEX Flagship Exchange Program in February 2019, Dr. Gabriele applied to attend Emergency Medicine residency in the US and successfully matched. He has an unparalleled knowledge of our exchange program as a participant, and now organizer, the healthcare systems in the US, Italy, and around Europe, and is an indispensable member of our team!
Krishi is a rising M2 at Rosalind Franklin Chicago Medical School. He is interested in global health, global EM, and is looking forward to finding new ways to contribute!

We have worked with a number of organizations, universities, residencies, undergraduate students, medical students, residents, and fellows interested in learning more about international EM, and finding ways to get involved in their future careers. In addition to being a full time student and working with EMGLEX, Abida is also Nursing assistant in the Emergency Department at Lurie Children's hospital of Chicago. We are glad to have her on our team and excited to be working with her!

Zill Patel is an undergraduate student at Brown University studying Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. Her interests lie in addressing the structural inequalities that persist in healthcare around the world, especially in the relatively new field of emergency medicine.
Kimmy is a third year student at Brown University studying Environmental Studies with interests in Pre-Med and Public Health. Originally from Chicago, IL, she is interested in the intersection of environmental racism and the impacts on health, specifically maternal and child health. Outside of school, she enjoys being a barista, making DJ mixes, and attempting to cook!

Hazam Abdel-Megid is a sophomore studying neuroscience at Brown University. He is interested in medicine and Islamic bioethics.
Samah is currently a sophomore at Brown University interested in sociology. She is passionate about expanding educational access and addressing structural inequities.

Josephine is a junior at Brown University studying Biology with a focus on Physiology and Biotechnology. She is interested in learning how to incorporate emergency medicine into global healthcare systems to better treat patient ailments.

Nate is a fourth year undergraduate student at Brown University studying Psychology and Economics and will be matriculating to Warren Alpert Medical School in the fall of 2023. He joined the EMGLEX team to further explore his interests in the field of Emergency Medicine and medical systems across cultures outside of the United States.
Gayda is an undergraduate student at Brown University studying Health & Human Biology. Her interests lie within emergency medicine and trauma, and she is super passionate about bridging the healthcare divide that currently exists between first and third world countries.

Brianna is a student at Brown University, class of 2026, studying Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Originally from Canada, she is passionate about expanding remote healthcare access and intends to pursue a career in global medicine upon graduation.
Daniel is a freshman at Brown University planning on concentrating in Computational Neuroscience. He has worked as a social health advocate and is interested in pursuing a career in science/medicine.
Melissa is a junior at Loyola University Chicago. She is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. Although Melissa is majoring in political science, she is also on the premed track. Melissa is spending this semester studying in Rome at the John Felice Rome Campus of Loyola University.

Alyscia Batista is fourth year student at Brown University studying Immunobiology and Public Health. She has worked as a medical interpreter and clinical volunteer. Originally from Peru, she is interested in pursuing a career in medicine, and enjoys spending her free time in nature.

Katherine Kupsaw is a sophomore at Brown University planning on concentrating in Neuroscience and is PR manager for Brown Alzheimer’s Activists, an advocate for Connect for Health, and an instructor for the Brown Brain Bee. When not working with EMGLEX or studying at school, Katherine enjoys snorkeling, wakeboarding, and exploring the beaches in her hometown of Sanibel, FL.

Jelynn Tatad is a junior at Brown University studying Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She joined EMGLEX as a way to combine her love for learning about other cultures with a potential career in science/medicine.
